What to book first?

What do I need to book first and when? The answer depends on your priorities, but as a general rule:

Reception venue – setting the scene for your day makes a big difference to everything else,  so it is wise to book this as soon as you have a date in mind and have looked over the options.  While it may seem overwhelming to work out the best option at first, talking to us about your tastes, ideas and budget will help put together a shortlist.
A major factor to consider is a resort / restaurant reception vs. catering at an outdoor venue or rental property.
Ceremony venue -Some of the most popular spots can be booked out on Saturdays, however there is more than one time slot a day, so you are best looking at this after the reception venue unless you have very specific needs.   Don’t forget some reception venues like holiday houses can be great ceremony venues as well.
If photography/videography is important to you book these early.  Port Douglas has some first rate photographers but like elsewhere the best book out up to a year in advance.  If you are thinking about the timing for your day, have a chat with the photographer regarding light and locations.  A 5pm ceremony and a long list of photo locations and shots required don’t go together.
Celebrant – like wise with photography the great celebrants will book out up to a year in advance.  The celebrants on our site are all full time and established local celebrants that we can recommend.
Accommodation – If you are looking at using a luxury residences for the duration of your stay, try to get one that is in the right location and budget range locked in early.  There are some amazing properties available to rent in town, however many have minimum stays and restrictions or fees for weddings held on site.  Wedding Lounge tip –  Talk to us about the best houses and villas around and some hidden gems, as a lux pad can work out to be more affordable than you think.
Florist – We have the wonderful ‘Floral Edge’ in the Coconut Grove Complex.  Look around at styles you like, talk about your ideas and go from there.  Remember to finalise flower choices a few weeks before the wedding as often they will need to be ordered in from southern suppliers.
Hair and makeup – We have a number of talented locals and also plenty coming up from Cairns.  Get in touch with Port Douglas Hair and Makeup, the Hair Shop and Tropical Beauty.  All will arrange a trial if you have the time and want to get things right.
Transport – If you want something special, get in early as there are only a few options in town.  For a limo, bus or hire car you should have no problem booking most times of year.
What services might I need to look outside Port Douglas for? –
dancing Bears?   Seriously though, don’t make the mistake of thinking that just because its a small town PD doesn’t have top class suppliers.  You will be pleasantly surprised and don’t need to bring in anyone from the ‘big smoke’.
